Our History
Husband and wife team Eduardo and Irene Rego purchased the existing Mello's business in 1978. The couple had met in their native Portugal, but Irene immigrated with her family to the United States in 1966. Once Eduardo had finished his military duty in Portugal in 1970, he joined her in the U.S. Shortly thereafter, they married and began their life together.
Purchasing a small business fulfilled their American dream and allowed them to enjoy their passion for food and culture from their native land. Over 40 years later, they and their three children continue to cater to those who love the rich flavors of Portuguese cuisine.
40 Years of Family
Today, Mello's continues to be family owned and operated. After starting at our first location on Brightman Street in October 1978, we moved to our current location on North Court Street in February 1981.
Since then, we have expanded our business to serve customers beyond the city of Fall River and southern New England. Today, we sell to businesses throughout the Northeast and ship orders to every state in the country. Our family now spans three generations, and we are happy to be able to continue sharing the taste of home with people throughout the country.
Flavor & Quality
We have always manufactured our traditional Portuguese chourico and linguica sausage the old fashioned way. We only use lean, high quality pork, and we cut our meat into large chunks before mixing it with our family recipe of spices to give our products their unique texture and flavor.
All of our products are fully cooked and cooled according to USDA regulations, and we undergo daily inspection to ensure that our chourico, linguica, and other products are manufactured according to a high standard of safety and quality.
